“While we welcome the order of PNoy to Secretary De Lima (DoJ) to withdraw the case against Morong 43 as a step towards reconciliation and peace, this should pave the way for the review of all cases and the release of all political prisoners in the country,”  Emmanuel Amistad, Executive Director of the Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP), a human rights organization, declared in a statement during their commemoration of the International Human Rights day in front of the Department of Justice together with Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA).

The group calls for PNoy to look beyond the Morong 43 and the rebel soldiers and look into the plight of almost 300 political prisoners and detainees nationwide.

PNOY must release all victims of political incarceration. Free All Political Prisoners!
On Political Prisoners
Wednesday, 08 December 2010 16:20
Almost 300 political prisoners and political detainees continue to languish in jail even as this government claims democracy as its lifeblood.  Most of them have been convicted or charged with common crimes that deny them of their true identities as grassroots activists, urban poor organizers, or even as revolutionaries.

We welcome the possible freedom of Sen. Trillanes and the Morong 43 as a step towards reconciliation and peace, but we must look beyond the Morong 43 and the rebel soldiers and look into the plight of almost 300 political prisoners and detainees nationwide.

We agree with PNoy’s call to release Suu Kyi...

We agree with PNoy’s call to release Suu Kyi but he must do the same to all political prisoners/detainees in the country

It was indeed a remarkable posture on the side of the Philippine government, especially with PNoy, when it urged the Myanmar Junta to immediately release Dau Aung Suu Kyi during a meeting of ASEAN leaders in Hanoi, Vietnam last October 28, 2010.  But PNoy must also be reminded that he himself has not released the political prisoners and detainees in the country.

The courage to tell it straight to the Burmese junta to release Dau Aung Suu Kyi should be applauded and welcomed by all who cherish democracy.

But does it mean that PNoy will apply the same treatment to all Filipinos, brave men and women of principles who were incarcerated and languished in jails around the country because of their political beliefs?

Balanga, Bataan--- Relatives of some nine hundred prisoners incarcerated in Bataan Provincial Jail are anxious as to their loved one’s fate following yesterday’s arbitrary demolition of prisoner’s ‘tarima’ or cubicles by officers of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology or BJMP and the consequent riot that followed.

The political prisoners along with regular inmates were hosed down and nine gunshots were heard by witnesses as a result of the surprise demolition by jail officials.

According to Samahan ng mga Pamilya ng mga Detenido sa Bataan Spokesperson Mara Bathan, “we are in the dark how our loved ones’ are faring with the news blackout”
